Family-owned US engineering, procurement and construction company founded in 1898 by Warren A. Bechtel and headquartered in Reston, Virginia.
Bechtel Corporation traces its business to 1898, when the cattle farmer Warren A. Bechtel began taking railroad construction contracts, and was incorporated as W.A. Bechtel Company in 1925. It joined the Six Companies consortium in 1931 that built Hoover Dam, and later worked on projects including the Channel Tunnel and Crossrail. It is family-owned and headquartered in Reston, Virginia, with Brendan Bechtel as chair and CEO, and Engineering News-Record ranked it the second largest US construction company in 2022, behind Turner.
