Employee-owned group of independent general contracting companies in Canada, the US and Australia, started in 1906 by Ernest Poole in Stoughton, Saskatchewan.

PCL began in 1906 as a small-town Saskatchewan builder in Stoughton, started by Ernest Poole, and was incorporated as Poole Construction Company Limited in 1913. It moved its headquarters to Edmonton, Alberta in 1932, where its global headquarters remains, with its US head office in Denver, Colorado since 1975. Ernest Poole’s sons John and George bought the company in 1948 and sold it in 1977 to 25 senior managers, after which it became employee-owned and was renamed PCL Construction Ltd. in 1979. It operates as a group of independent contracting companies across civil, industrial and building work.
