HOCHTIEF
German construction and infrastructure group founded in 1873 and based in Essen, with Turner in the US and CIMIC in Australia, majority-owned by Spain's ACS.
HOCHTIEF was founded in 1873 by the Helfmann brothers, including the bricklayer Philipp Helfmann, and moved its base to Essen in 1922 after investment from the industrialist Hugo Stinnes. It is Germany’s largest construction company and works globally, mainly through its Turner subsidiary in the United States and CIMIC in Australia, and holds a 20% stake in the toll-road operator Abertis. Spain’s ACS Group has been its majority shareholder since 2011, holding 75.71% as of 2023. Earlier engineering work includes moving the Abu Simbel temples in Egypt.
